Vintage Womb Chair Reupholstery

Our client purchased this Eero Saarinen womb chair and ottoman when she furnished her first “adult” apartment. After many years of heavy use, this beloved furniture was in need of a refresh. She wanted to create a one-of-a-kind womb chair by reupholstering it in a unique leather.

We reupholstered this Knoll womb chair and ottoman using hair-on cowhides we sourced at S.H. Frank, a purveyor of leather in San Francisco since 1857. Don’t let the simple, clean lines of this chair fool you - reupholstery of a womb chair requires the skills of a master craftsperson. And reupholstering a womb chair in leather (with no seams on the frame!) is a masterful feat.
