Giving Both Furniture and Materials a Second Life

Revitaliste’s mission has always been to make it effortless for interior designers to give new life to old furniture, which helps keep quality furniture in homes and out of landfills. But while furniture revitalization is a sustainable choice, it isn’t entirely waste-free. Every time we strip a piece of furniture, we’re left with fabric, foam, and padding—materials that are often worn out and difficult to recycle. Add to that the offcuts and scraps from new upholstery fabrics, and the reality becomes clear: even sustainable choices create waste.

That’s why we’re proud to launch our Materials Stewardship Initiative—a new effort to responsibly manage the waste generated during the reupholstery process. This initiative ensures that the old materials we remove and the new fabric scraps we produce are thoughtfully handled, reused, donated, or recycled whenever possible.

How It Works

Through this initiative, we will:

- Sort and clean discarded upholstery materials

- Donate usable materials to local furniture banks and arts education nonprofits

- Recycle or dispose of unusable foam, padding, and fabric in an environmentally responsible way

- Reduce the volume of textile waste heading to landfill

Your Role in This Effort

To help make this initiative viable, we are introducing a 3% fee on all new fabric purchases. This small fee helps cover the costs of responsible sorting and cleaning, donation, recycling, and safe disposal of reupholstery materials. It also supports the procurement of new materials and partnerships with local organizations that extend the life of these materials in creative and productive ways.

This contribution is not just a fee—it’s a shared investment in sustainability.

Why It Matters

As an interior designer, your influence is powerful. Every piece you choose to reimagine instead of replace sends a message to your clients: beauty and sustainability can go hand in hand. By working with us, you’re not just giving furniture a second life—you’re helping to ensure the materials behind the scenes are treated with the same care and thoughtfulness as the finished piece.

We hope this initiative makes you feel even better about the work we do together. Because together, we’re creating beautiful interiors—and a better system.

If you have questions about the Materials Stewardship Initiative or how we’re managing materials behind the scenes, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re proud to take this step forward, and even prouder to do it with partners like you.
