“Something old, and personally meaningful, brings soulfulness to a room.”

After a decade of practicing with some of the industry’s most lauded interior designers, including Madeline Stuart in Los Angeles and Tucker and Marks in San Francisco, Marea Clark founded her firm, MCI, and quickly gained a loyal client base in the Bay Area and Beyond. Equally influenced by Clark’s Southern sensibility and West Coast experiences, the firm takes a fresh approach to traditional decorating by nodding to the past while looking to the future.

“I chose this settee for its cute shape and fun scalloped wood detail,” says Clark. “I also liked that it had manchettes, offering us the opportunity to use multiple fabrics.” The designer selected Schumacher’s Sylvain Floral Stripe in Teal as the primary upholstery, pairing it with Beverly Stripe in China Blue. “I wanted it to be punchy and colorful but also versatile,” says Clark. The Schumacher patterns we chose pair well with the traditional shape of the settee, but the coloring feels fresh. The blues and greens play off of each other, and there’s a nice contrast between the organic floral and ticking stripe.”

Clark believes in the power of revitalizing furniture, noting “We always love incorporating vintage and antiques, especially when they have a familial connection to the client and can be reimagined in an exciting way.”
